Community Awards Membership Our Patriots Contact Us State DAR Website National DAR Website Members Only Site Home Welcome to the website of the Front Range Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) . Please enjoy your visit to these pages as you explore who we are, what we do, our patriot ancestors, how to join us, including researching your family history, and resources to promote historical preservation, champion education, and celebrate patriotism. This is also a great website to learn about the resources available within our community, like awards and honors, classroom resources, contests, community service, the DAR Manual for Citizenship, grants, scholarships, speakers and programs, veteran assistance, and much more! Additional information can also be found on the website of the Colorado State Society, NSDAR, and the website of the National Society . Who We Are The organizational meeting for Front Range Chapter NSDAR was held in Broomfield, Colorado, on October 28, 1972. Mrs. Gertrude Evans, State Regent at that time, suggested the name Front Range for the new chapter because membership area encompasses most of the northern metro Denver area. These communities enjoy a fabulous view, north to south, of the Front Range of the Rockies.” Charter member, Sara Houston Sheriff, composed a poem entitled I am the Front Range.” The poem, written below, is published in the chapter yearbook each year. Two of our members have served as State Regent – Joan Pollard Wayne (1928-2015) for the term 1999-2001, and Doda Sheehan White for the term 1993-1995. Over the years many of our members have served in other capacities at both state and national level. Our chapter is fortunate to have members from all age groups who share their knowledge and experience and work together to accomplish the service goals of DAR. During the past several years the chapter members have logged thousands of hours of volunteer service to the community: gathering clothing and household items for veterans supporting Emerald elementary students with literacy projects and supplies honoring women in history supporting FISH, our community food bank, with needed items supporting our Broomfield Children’s Therapy Hospital with needed items supporting Fisher House, a place for veterans’ families to stay when the veteran is hospitalized working with school principals and counselors to present DAR Good Citizens Awards sewing pocket prayer quilts making fidget mats for veterans indexing records and preserving genealogical history volunteering at historic preservation sites placing wreaths on veterans’ graves in December supporting our members in need and our student members who are away at college Front Range Chapter NSDAR became a Commemorative Partner with the national 50th Anniversary of Vietnam Commemoration in 2016, and one of our members has organized and conducted five separate ceremonies since that date to formally honor and thank 428 Vietnam veterans with certificates and lapel pins, for which she received national recognition. Front Range members actively volunteer whenever and however we can, serving our community and the missions of DAR, and we are all PROUD TO BE DAR.” For further information about your application, applicant's workshops, or Front Range Chapter NSDAR meetings, please contact us . We welcome your interest! Mountains drawn by Gertrude Kellogg Evans State Organizing Secretary 1972 Colorado State Regent 1975-1977/ I AM THE FRONT RANGE I have always typified the spirit of Colorado. It was I, who welcomed the Mountain Men who came, some to explore the new frontier and some to hunt and fish. They appreciated the cool breezes and the cold streams that flowed from the high mountains above me. Next the gold of Central City and the silver in Leadville served to make our state rich. But my most important contributions to the state are the trees, the grasslands and the mountain streams that feed the ranches and farms that I hold in my valleys. The people who live on the plains to the east seek my shelter during the hot summer months. I am a very important part of our great state. I AM THE FRONT RANGE. ~Sara Houston Sheriff (1899-1976) Charter Member The content contained herein does not necessarily represent the position of the NSDAR.
